MANA and resistance to the next National government

FightBack

Protest

Fightback is committed to the MANA Movement, however we are still in the process of assessing the 2014 electoral defeat and future prospects. Grant Brookes (Fightback/MANA Poneke) offers one perspective.

Over the coming week, MANA leaders Hone Harawira and Annette Sykes will tour the country, talking with members and supporters about where next for the Movement after the election.

The media called it a “landslide victory” for National, a “catastrophe” for the opposition. John Key was labeled a “rock star politician”, said to be “even more popular” than he was three years ago.

National won 61 seats in Parliament – enough to govern alone, based on the provisional count.

The election turnout, at 77 percent, appeared slightly higher than the 74 percent of registered electors who cast a vote in 2011. But fewer people registered to vote this time. So the percentage of the population who voted in 2014…

Paul Craig Roberts: Banks Are A Looting Mechanism. Dollar To Die In 2015?

Video Rebel's Blog

This is what Paul Craig Roberts said to King World News about a recent Federal Reserve policy change and the Big Banks. He said the Too Big To Jail Banks can no longer contribute to the growth in our real economy. The Banks are part of an asset stripping mechanism. The Banks follow the IMF into destitute countries stealing islands from Greece or demanding local utilities be sold to foreign buyers.

Now the Federal Reserve is setting its sights on American cities and counties and their pension funds. The Federal Reserve has ruled that banks can no longer use municipal bands as tier 1 assets. There are $3.7 trillion dollars in these US municipal bonds out there. If the banks have to sell their bonds and are not allowed to buy new ones from the cities, then pressure will be put on new municipal bond sales. Roberts thinks that this…

Lessons to learn from bitter defeat

International Socialists

AL-john-kerry-2109eThis was a defeat, and a big one. We have to start with this unpleasant reality. National, on the current results, could govern alone if they chose; at 48% their share of the vote has actually increased compared to the last election. This is an extraordinary situation. Over one million people voted for National. The Herald calls Key “triumphant”. The Dominion Post label him the “poll slayer.” The rich and powerful will be delighted with this result – National is the preferred party of the capitalist class, and it is in a strong position.

We must begin with a lucid registration of defeat. Over the last six years we have argued sometimes that Key’s support is ‘brittle’ or ‘hollow.’ These results show this to be wishful thinking rather than analysis – with each election National has maintained or increased its support. To win in 2008 it is true that National needed to position themselves ‘left’…

Open Letter To Kim Dotcom: It Was Cognitive Dissonance That Made National Win

Aotearoa: A Wider Perspective

In the aftermath of the disastrous election results I decided to put my thoughts on paper in an open letter to Kim Dotcom. Kim Dotcom who has taken on the habit of penance for thinking that it was he who lost MANA the elections. I beg to differ. So here goes.

Dear Kim,

You don’t know me even though you have been following my tweets for a while now. I tried to write some personal messages to you over the last three months to which you choose not to respond but never the less I would like to direct myself to you publically in the aftermath of what is most certainly the most stunning turn of political events in a 125 years of NZ history.

Like you I am a Toa Iwi or a foreignerin this country. I am a 58 year old Dutch women, like you almost 2 meters…

Newly-Released Video of Missile Hitting Pentagon on 9/11

Starship Earth: The Big Picture

This video is reportedly from a hotel security camera. Supposedly, it was confiscated by the FBI and later returned, after litigation.
GIF

Observations

  1. The original video is from the days of hand-held camcorders
  2. YouTube didn’t exist until three years after this recording
  3. The format is an animated GIF, meaning it is a series of still images–consistent with how older videos were digitized
  4. The mirror images of the YouTube controls are a mystery. Since this is a GIF, I would guess that the YouTube controls were flipped and then applied to the individual frames
